First things first,
Know Your Measurements: Memorizing your measurements is key! Most of us don't notice the asymmetry of our bodies but the eye of a trained tailor sees them all. Fostering a relationship with your local tailor can definitely assist you with learning what fit works best for you. Whether you follow every trend or a fashion rebel this will help you streamline your look in order to blend in or standout. Remember you can always stick to the basics until you find what works best for your personal style. Go Vintage Flea markets and thrift shops often provide quality clothing at a discounted price from the actual retailer. You can find a hidden gem that not only falls into the current trend but will also help you stand out with your unique vintage statement piece. Shopping at flea markets and thrift shops requires patience and practice in order to uncover those quality items. Vintage items may not fit exactly the way you want but this is why having an established relationship with a tailor is key. Take Care of Your Wardrobe Properly caring for new or old items is a necessity. The more care you have the more wears you can get out of your items. Investing in a clothes brush is essential especially if you work in an office or business setting that requires blazers, jackets, suits, trousers, and overcoats. Also investing in a steamer will not only get the wrinkles out but will assist you with the preservation of your items in order to get the most wears out of them. Remember, clothing is never old, its vintage. (add direct link to products not the general link to an online store) Fit is the Key to a perfect closet! Having the perfect fit is key but what does that mean? Wrinkles in a suit usually means it is a bad fit. Vertical creases or wrinkles indicate the garment is too wide in a certain area. Horizontal of X folds indicate that certain areas are too tight. (add more details about fit, what are diff fits i.e. … slim, skinny, tapered, differences or add a link to an article that may go more in depth?) Don’t Trust a Sales Person Always travel with someone whose style you admire or have a set idea of what style you're going for versus taking advice from someone whose main goal is to make a sale. If you aren’t sold on an item right away, leave it behind. For example, shopping on E-Bay never trust the seller until you see pictures of labels, the item details tab for a description of flaws or even questions on sizing. Research before Purchase! Always make a list of what you need to avoid impulsive purchases or unnecessary items to just throw in the back of the closet. Stick to Your budget! Set a certain amount each month. Even if it’s $20 a month, that’s enough for a tie or a nice coat from a vintage store. The key is to save up and buy quality items when you can afford it. Things you don’t use or no longer want can always be donated or sold in order to purchase those key pieces you’ve had your eye on. |
